Rylie with Real Salt Lake

Rylie and her soccer team were lucky enough to escort Real Salt Lake players onto the field in last Saturday's game. Evan is their coach so he was able to get some great pics from the field. Rylie knows that Kyle Beckerman is my favorite player and she was lucky enough to get to walk with him. It was a great game and I'm glad that Rylie got to participate in this great soccer tradition. Saige could have been there too but she "just got too scared" when I told her that she would be on the field and on TV. Instead, she and I sat in the stands and cheered the others on.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Dr. for our ultrasound. We were so excited to find out what we are having. Here is a video of the girls' reaction when we told them. Yes, Rylie's face is green...she had been at day camp and the theme was "Army."

Rylie has been in dance class since January and she absolutely LOVES it!!! I must say, she is a good little dancer too. Here are a few pics of her in her dance costume after the recital. I was so impressed with her confidence. She did such a great job!

Saige's Preschool Graduation

Today Saige graduated from preschool and she is SO ready for kindergarten. In fact, I caught her many times today singing songs about "here I come kindergarten" and "kindergarten is next for me." Saige loves to make up songs about whatever is on her mind and apparently today, Kindergarten was on her mind. She is such a cute girl and she loved preschool. This was her second year of preschool. She was lucky enough to go to different preschools each year which allowed her to experience a lot of different things. I can't believe my little Saigey is heading to kindergarten!

Saige's Gymnastics Exhibition

Saige has been taking gymnastics for the last few months and has LOVED it! She is such a timid little girl and it has been so good for her to stretch herself and try new things in gymnastics. The other night she had her first gymnastics exhibition. She wasn't sure at first about everyone being there to watch her but she quickly got into it.

My girls (and I) have been privileged enough to take piano lessons from my good friend Torri. Torri has been so great and although they don't love to practice, it does my heart good to see that they are learning something. Saige has only been taking lessons for a couple of months and I was very proud of her for memorizing her song. Rylie has been taking lessons longer but learned "Old McDonald" toward the beginning of her lessons. Torri let each of the girls choose their own song and this is the one that Rylie chose. I've also taken lessons but I weaseled my way out of the recital. There is something about an adult playing "Here we go, up a row, to a birthday party." Its cute and impressive when a 5 year old plays it but a 33 year old should be able to play something more, right? It's become very obvious to me that they learn much more quickly than I do.

We've had tons of little events in the last couple of weeks. I'm amazed at how busy the last 2 weeks of school can be. I absolutely LOVE all of the fun things that the girls get to be involved in though. There is nothing like the look on their faces when they perform and when they know that you are proud of them.

Saige's New Do

After much consideration and many tears when it came time to fix Saige's hair she decided to have her hair cut and donated to "Locks of Love." I almost cried when I cut her long beautiful hair off but I'm happy to know that another child will have the opportunity to have Saige's hair. Saige LOVES her new haircut and I think that when it comes time to fix her hair in the mornings, I will love it too :)!

Today Rylie was excited to tell us a story that her teacher had told to her. The story went as follows...

"Mom, today I heard the saddest story from my teacher. Her kids, when they were little got a marker and they wrote all over themselves. One of them got a purple marker and wrote all over his body and one had a green marker and the other had a red one. And GUESS WHAT!? It was PREGNANT marker!"

Last night as we were getting ready to go to the Real Salt Lake game we heard a knock at the door. It sounded like a kid knock so I took my time getting there. I opened the door to find Rylie standing there covered in blood and standing in drips of blood all over the porch. She had been playing at the neighbor's house in their sandbox when one of the boys whacked her in the head with a shovel...OUCH! My first thought was..."lets go to the hospital" but on further inspection (and much debate) we decided that it isn't super deep. Deep enough to require a trip to the store for butterfly bandages but not enough for stitches. Rylie was a real trooper through the ordeal. The most she cried was when we said "butterfly bandage" because she didn't know what that was and it sounded scary.

BTW- Why don't they make "cute" butterfly bandages?
We were able to get her all bandaged up and comforted in time to go to the game. Thanks to Auntie Amy for babysitting and for Drew distracting Rylie from her wound.

last night we were at the gas station and Rylie decided that she just couldn't wait until we got to Grandma's house to go potty. Kenzi took her to the bathroom and while she was taking care of her business she noticed the logo on the toilet paper dispenser. She knew right away what GP must stand for.

The Clean Room Fairy

This last week I got a call from a fairly new fairy. Her name is the "Clean Room Fairy" and her job is to reward kids for having a clean room. Much like the tooth fairy, she does her job without ever being seen.

I had cleaned the girls bedroom on Friday and somehow the clean room fairy heard about this momentous occasion. She called me telling me that if the girls will keep their bedroom clean then she would reward them with a random treat or surprise. The thing is that they will never know when she might come to check on their room. She may come every day or every other day or even once a week but you never know when she might show up. I told the girls about my phone call and they were very excited. On Saturday morning they woke up and hurried in to make their beds and make sure that everything was in its place. About half way through the day Rylie went in and found a halloween prize on her bed. It was a bag of M & M's with a halloween pencil.

The clean room fairy didn't come yesterday , Saige says its because she doesn't work on Sunday, but I love to hear the girls encourage each other to clean up and make sure their beds are made. They are so excited about this new fairy and honestly...SO AM I!

Maybe next time she comes I will remember to take a picture of the girls with their prize.

Rylie's actual birthday was spent at Bear Lake with the Ehat family. She, of course, wanted to have a little friend party when we got home. She wanted her party theme to be "Barbie Mermaid." She had a great birthday party and loves having her friends over. Thanks to everyone who came!

Saige's First Day of School

Saige is our little anxious angel. She is the sweetest, most loving, and happy little girl but she doesn't like the idea of anything new. She started school on Tuesday and had nightmares the night before. She cried and asked that we not make her go to school. Its funny because she had preschool last year and loved it...but this year its a new preschool without Auntie Amy. I walked her down to her class and slowly slipped out while she was tracing her name. I held my phone close just in case. 2 1/2 hours later when I picked her up she told me "MOM! I LOVED IT!!!! THIS WAS THE FUNNEST DAY EVER!!!!

I love this cute girl and I'm so happy that she loves school. Now she asks all morning if its time to go to school yet. She can't wait to see what they'll do today.

Saige's First Soccer Game

After watching Rylie play last year, Saige couldn't wait to be old enough to play. This year she is a "Blue Thunder." We knew that Saige would be timid since that is her nature but we had no idea that it would be so traumatic. She cried through her first 2 practices and her first game. Her coach takes the game very seriously and hasn't really realized that these are 4 year olds!

Luckily, these pictures were taken before the game (before the tears started flowing.) I think the coach is quickly realizing that 4 year olds don't comprehend the lectures about playing a defensive game...they just want to have FUN!!! Fortunately, yesterday the coach wasn't able to come to practice and had another parent coach. Within 2 minutes Saige was playing and kicking the ball and having a great time. She told me on the way home that "That was the most fun EVER!" Hopefully it will continue to be fun for her.

You have to admit that she is pretty darn cute though!!!

Rylie's school was remodeled last year. As part of the new school they asked the kids to draw a picture of their favorite book to be printed on tiles for a wall mural. Rylie chose to draw "Fat Cat on a Mat" which is still her favorite book. On back to school night we saw her classroom and met her teacher. On the way out of the school we saw the tiles and searched for her picture. At first I didn't see it and thought hers hadn't been chosen but she found it right away. She did a great job and her picture is now part of the school. She is very proud.

Saige started swim lessons on Monday...it was a very traumatic day for both of us. I have a fear of water and my girls seem to have followed in my footsteps. Of course they LOVE to play in the water and in the pool but they do not love to get their faces wet. Any water in the face leads to complete panic. This is a picture of Saige's second day....I was AMAZED at her progress. She was a little timid at first but soon became comfortable in the water. She floated on her back across the entire pool after diving in at the other end. You can see Rylie in the corner crying and being scared to get into the water. Yesterday was her first day so hopefully today will be better. I highly recommend these private swim lessons.

Rylie's 1st Season of Soccer

This Saturday will be Rylie's last soccer game as a "Yellow Bumble Bee." Rylie has done a great job in soccer and has learned a lot. She has grown up a lot since she started last fall.

She even scored a goal in her first season and you should have seen her strut across the field after it went into the net.

Torri was a great coach and all of the kids love her. Even though I was listed as the assistant coach, I didn't do much since I was very pregnant in the spring. And I always made Evan coach the games that Torri didn't.

30 minutes at Disneyland is enough to make you pee your pants.

Our first day at Disneyland started out a little rocky but ended up being great! We got there on Monday morning at around 8:30 am and it was raining. We thought we would be ok with a little bit of rain but it started raining pretty hard so we spent a small fortune on Disneyland ponchos. Of course not long after buying the ponchos, the rain stopped and the sun came out. We decided to treat the girls to their first mickey mouse ears first thing. They were super excited to chose their hats, ears, and of course princess crowns to go on top.

We then saw Mickey outside and got in line for pictures. When the rain started up again they moved us inside to meet Mickey, Pluto, and Goofy.

After meeting the characters and posing for pics, Saige informed me that she needed to go potty. Well, lets just say that we didn't make it in time. We had only been at Disneyland for about 30 minutes and Saige pee'd her pants. Fortunately, I threw in an extra pair of pants as we walked out the door. Unfortunately, pants were the only extras that I brought so Saige had to go commando for the rest of the day.

It was so much fun to travel and play together with our friends Torri, Josh, Madison, and Kylee. We lived next to one another in American Fork and have been great friends ever since.

California and Disneyland

We had a great vacation to California and Disneyland. We drove all day on Saturday the 3rd and got settled in. The Easter bunny found us in California on Sunday morning and the girls woke up to their Easter baskets and Easter egg hunt.

After relaxing on Sunday morning we decided to drive over to the beach for a little down time before we went to Disneyland on Monday.

Shortly after we got to the beach we found out that an earthquake had been felt about an hour before. I guess we were on the road at the time so we didn't feel the quake. No one seemed too concerned about it so we just played and had a great time.

This was Dylann's first time to the beach. She loved the sand and water until she started getting cold. It was a fun and relaxing Sunday afternoon.

Our little Saige has been introduced to a whole new world. Her glasses came last week and she LOVES them. I think she looks pretty cute in them too. Here are a few of her comments of the last few days.

"Mom LOOK!!! The road is SO bumpy!"

"Dad, Your head is huge!!"

After misplacing her glasses and Mommy asking where they were "Oh NO! If I can't find them the mountains will be cloudy forever!"

While looking at birds in the sky with Rylie and a friend "Guys, I have the coolest glasses EVER! They make things so huge."

I was sad to hear that my little girl couldn't see more than 3 ft in front of her, but thank goodness for glasses. She is so excited to be able to see so clearly.

Saige's Newest Trick

Today I discovered a new trick of Saige's. I've wondered lately why she goes to the bathroom so often. Here is a rundown of todays bathroom events.

Saige- Dances around the room holding her bum.

Mom- "Saige, Run in and go potty"

Saige- Runs in the bathroom and flushes the toilet. Then she comes out and tells me she went.

Mom- "Saige, get in there and go potty!"

Saige- Runs into the bathroom and makes a long "Sssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh" sound, flushes the toilet and comes out telling me that she went.

Mom- "Saige, get in there and go potty RIGHT NOW!"

Saige- Feeling defeated goes in and goes potty...

Why is it so hard for her to go potty? She will hold it until she can't possibly hold it any longer and then pretend to go potty before she will actually go. Its so weird to me.

This was the first sledding trip of 2009. Okay, well...it wasn't really a trip. And its kind of a stretch to call it sledding when you consider the fact that its in our yard which has a very small hill to the neighbors yard. The girls had a great time! And Evan and Kenzi were pretty into it too. The sun had already gone down but we couldn't resist the opportunity to take advantage of the snow. The girls have already played outside quite a few times this year. Its so nice that they can get themselves dressed in their snow clothes. I have fond memories of last years 20 minute prep time for 5 minutes outside. Kenzi and Rylie

Lights at Thanksgiving Point

In the past we've gone to temple square to walk around and see the lights. This year we decided to reserve a trolley at Thanksgiving Point to see their lights. This was a much better option this year since we have 3 little ones that wouldn't handle the cold weather very well. We had a great time enjoying the lights and going to JCW for ice cream afterward. Gingerbread Houses

Each year we decorate a gingerbread house as a family. This year was fun since the girls are now old enough to have definite ideas of how the house should look. We decided that since we have a few helpers we would decorate each piece separately and then assemble the house. It was a lot of fun and always makes for some great memories. We decided that today would be a great day to go to the zoo. Evan is in Moab on another one of his guys weekends of mountain biking. Its fall break from school so the girls have all been home for the last 2 days and I thought it would be a great excuse to do something fun. The girls were so good and we had a fun girls day out!

Anna Ontamna or Miley Cyrus???

Apparently the whole Anna Ontamna ( Hannah Montana) / Miley Cyrus thing is a bit too complicated for a 5 year old. Rylie has been completely taken with the idea of Hannah Montana, whenever she sees a shirt or poster of her she gets super excited and yells "Anna Ontamna!!!" Each time we go to redbox she asks if she can rent the Hannah Montana movie. I always try to convince her to get another movie since I know that she has never actually seen the show and she doesn't know anything about it. Tonight Evan decided to take the girls to redbox and let them get whatever they wanted. They, of course, chose Hannah Montana.

Friday night was filled with a bunch of teenagers as they celebrated McKenzie's 17th birthday. I can't believe she is already 17. We've loved having her live with us and are excited to see her do well over this next year. Kenzi has been so good with the girls and is loving school here in Lehi. She has already met so many people and every day when I pick her up she tells me about another new person she has met. They had a great time playing rockband, eating pizza and playing night games. Here are a few pics...The cake...of course we couldn't do just a 'regular' cake...we got to go all out!

One Month Old!!!!

I can't believe that Dylann has already been with us for one whole month. We are so lucky to have her in our family. She is such a good baby and makes everyone smile when they see her. She started out at a little 7 lbs 1 oz and is now beginning to get some cute little rolls.

She celebrated her 1 month birthday by going to her 1st Real Salt Lake soccer game. She was SO good at the game. Amazingly, she happily slept through the loud crowd and excitement of the game.
After the game we came home, and continued her celebration with sleeping a full 7 hours!!! We love Dylann so much and feel so blessed to have her here happy and healthy.

*of course in our haste to get to the game and make sure we had all of the baby essentials we forgot to bring our cameras so this pic was taken with my phone...not the best quality but we had to get at least one pic.

First Day Of School

The girls were so excited for their first day of school. I guess technically Saige's 1st day isn't until tomorrow but fortunately she had her preschool assessment on the same day that Rylie started school. Saige wants to do everything that Rylie does. In fact, she was mad that I was going to school with her and "Rylie got to go to school all by herself." Either way, I think they both looked beautiful! I can't believe that my Rylie is in kindergarten. She really is so grown up.

Saige LOVES her new backpack. Too bad the preschool has asked that they not bring backpacks. I think I have convinced her that it will make a great Sunday bag though.

Beautiful Little Soccer Player

Can you believe that my little girl is so grown up? She had so much fun on Saturday at her 1st soccer game of the season.

It was a HOT day but she played her best!

We are excited this year as Rylie started soccer with our good friend Torri as her coach and Evan and I as her assistant coaches. She is going to be a great soccer player! Her Daddy is so proud.

I will never be able to describe the intensity of the 'nesting' instinct that is kicking in with me right now. I made a list today of the 'few' things (Yes, the word few is sarcasm) that need to be done within the next 13 days. I think I may go insane if I have to keep my list in my head. There is so much to do, and so little time. Although, I don't think I would prefer that this pregnancy last any longer.

The only problem with my list is that 99.9% of the items on the list are needing to be done by someone other than myself...namely Evan. My boy has spent every waking hour of the last month or more working. If he isn't working at work, then he is working at home and I have to admit that he has been great to keep plugging away at his honey do list. He has built an entire bedroom in the basement for my niece who will be living with us for the school year, doing nearly everything on his own. We definitely appreciate those who have helped out, especially my brother who contributed his electrical expertise. In fact, Evan is downstairs right now texturing and priming the bedroom. I am lucky to have such a hard working husband! We are seeing the light at the end of that project but it is a bit short lived since we haven't even started on the baby's room. Yes, thats right! We haven't even started...and yes, I said we only have 13 days. We will have carpet installed on Monday in Mckenzie's new room. Which will then give us the chance to start on the baby's room.

Whew! I just keep having to tell myself that ready or not...here she comes.

Happy Birthday to our Rylie!!!

I can't believe my baby is 5! She is so grown up and we have had many discussions on the fact that 5 year olds don't pout, whine, cry, fight with their sisters, or go to time out. So far it isn't working so well but maybe by the time we get through this year we will have her convinced.

Rylie is a beautiful girl and we are so happy to have her as part of our family. She is such a great big sister and is super excited to have another little sister. She is very proud that she will get to be a big helper now that she is 5.

This morning while the girls were coloring Saige surprised me by saying "Mom, look I did an 'S.'" She then asked what letter to do next and to my shock she wrote her name. You can kind of make out the letters in the picture. It is written backwards but they are there.

Yesterday morning Rylie was so excited when she realized that it was her birthday.

Mom : "Rylie, its your birthday...what would you like to do today?"

Rylie: "Well, there are so many things we could do...like...play checkers!"

Rylie; "Not yet"

I thought it was so funny that of all the possibilities she came up with playing checkers, a game that she has never played and that we don't own.

Yesterday was Rylie's 5th birthday. I can't believe my little girl is already 5 and will be going to kindergarten soon. We had a fun day and Rylie got to chose where we went for dinner. She chose Iggy's because she remembered the ice cream that comes with their kids meals.

Rylie was pretty excited when the employees came and sang to her and brought her ice cream. I love the look she gave Evan while they were singing to her.

This is the grand finale of our 4th of July. The girls both fell sound asleep in the middle of the fireworks.

We had a great time waiting for the fireworks to start and by then the girls were exhausted. Their falling asleep left Evan and I in a bit of a mess. We had parked a ways away with the plan for a quick get away after the show. Little did we know that the girls would fall asleep and were impossible to wake up. We had all sorts of blankets and coolers and chairs with us as well so we had to get creative in how to get out of there. First we tried to carry everything and everyone. Evan had all of our supplies and Saige and I attempted to carry Rylie and the baby (of course.) I made it to the parking lot and with my blistered, swollen feet could not physically carry her any further. We laid out the blanket and wrapped up the girls on the side of the parking lot and I waited with them while Evan carried all of our stuff to the car and then ran back to get the girls and I. He couldn't drive into the parking lot because it was all blocked with people getting out so he had to come back and carry both girls while I waddled along behind them to the car. It ended up taking us an hour or more to get out of there and of course the girls woke up when we got into the car. It was a fun and eventful 4th of July.

Names! Names? Names????

I'm afraid I've started some trend that might get me in trouble. You see, each time there is a need for a name in our family, I have been the one to think of it. For example, I name Rylie, Saige, Evan's business (E2interactive), My business (Shear Serenity), and our dog (Bella.) Now it is time to think of a name for our next beautiful little girl and I am at a loss. I have had a few ideas but none of them seem to fit. I've asked Ev to think of names but he hasn't had any ideas. I think its like doing a man's laundry, once you start doing it...they suddenly lose all ability to do it themselves :). So, here I am, feeling anxious because I don't know her name and I'm stuck. I can't decorate her room without knowing her name. I know it sounds dumb but its true. So, here are some of my ideas...

This has been a great spring/summer..so far. We love every minute of soaking up the sun. Here are some pics of my sun girls today. SO much fun to go to the zoo! We went with Auntie Amy, Baby Drew and Grandma. We had a great time and the weather was perfect!

Sharpe Markers are both a blessing and a curse!

Permanent markers have so many great purposes...displaying art work on the walls and blankets is NOT one of them.

Saige may have seen her life flash before her eyes when I found this beautiful display on her closet door.

Maybe its more fun to do when you have to watch over your shoulder, knowing that you will be in big trouble if you get caught. I almost lost it when I saw this drawing on the blanket. I just splurged and bought the girls matching comforters for their beds. I sat them down and explained that these were just for them and that they need to take care of their things. Apparently, Saige considered drawing on hers a great way to take care of it. Needless to say, she has slept without blankets for the last week. Good thing the weather got warmer and she has snuggy jammies. Any ideas on how to get it out? I've tried oxi clean, and bleach straight on the marker...no luck in getting it out :(.

She really is on her way to becoming a great little artist.

4 Moms 9 1/2 little girls

Isn't it interesting that each of us have 2 girls about the same ages? This was a while ago but we had so much fun. We all needed a play day and the weather hadn't quite turned so we went to the mall to play at the tree. Hannah, Torri, Karen and I each with our two girls plus one extra that Karen was babysitting and 1/2 that I was carrying...literally.

We had a great time! Until it was time to leave and I had to scrape 4 inches of snow off of our car. Crazy spring weather...this was on April 15th.

A Crazy Month.

Last month we had the pleasant surprise of finding that the sewer had backed up into our house...YES! The SEWER! It was definitely as gross as you can imagine.

We called a plumber to come and snake the line and then they came back the next day to run a camera through the sewer line to find out the problem. To make a long story short, they found that the entire sewer line from our house to the street needed to be replaced. They gave us an estimate that was completely insane so I decided to get some other estimates. I ended up having 4 other estimates and the next closest estimate to the first was $5000 less! Can you believe that? By the way...don't call "action plumbing" unless you want to pay WAY too much.
Anyway, we finally found an excavation company that did the work for us...as you can see it was a mess!

We woke up in the morning to find a huge tractor in our front yard. The girls were completely mesmerized with watching them dig up our front yard. I was sad as they destroyed our lawn and my flower bed.

The trench was long and destructive but the workers did a great job! They were quick and efficient and they actually left the yard in pretty good shape...considering the extent of the project.

We are happy to have this project crossed off the list of things to be done. And even more happy to not have sewer waste in our basement!

Thanks to everyone who voted on our baby poll. We've had a fun and exciting morning as we had our 20 week ultrasound and found out if our baby is a boy or a girl...unfortunately, you all have to wait until we announce the sex to our family tomorrow night.

The poll ended with a total of 28 votes...75% for boy and 25% for girl.

My first quilt block

Last night I made my first quilt block. I was so excited to take a quilting class for enrichment and we had an excellent instructor who was very patient with me. It felt so good to use my sewing machine and create something that will be great! It may not look like much but I'm excited to continue working on it.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Ok, I wish I had had the presence of mind to take a picture before I cleaned this up...but just picture it in your mind. Rylie and Saige were in the bathtub...I went in to find that they had made their bath in to "chicken noodle soup." I had a liter of good conditioner in there for their hair. It was in a pump bottle and yellow in color. They quickly found that if they pumped it out into the bath water it made long "noodle like" tubes that floated in the bath. When I found this mess (which took about a minute) they had used half the bottle of conditioner and their entire bath was full of yellow noodles. I was running late for an appointment so I quickly showered them off and ran out the door. Later I asked Rylie why they did that and she simply said "Because we were making chicken noodle soup."
